Spain, Fascist State. A Falange Youth Knife 1939
Similar to the widely seen and popular German HJ knife. This knife measures 255 mm in length with the scabbard on, steel blade, magnetic, without maker mark, the blade dated "1939" on the reverse ricasso, with a very sharp blade and tip. Blade exhibits faint scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, along with traces of surface wear, the blade measuring 25 mm x 142 mm. Black leather buffer pad has harden with age but remains intact, nickel-plated hilt fittings with embedded black celluloid plates on either side held firmly in place with two rivets, the obverse plate with a diamond-shaped brass plate bearing the Falange insignia in red and black paint embedded within, the reverse celluloid plate marked in Spanish "JUVENIL" (Youth), magnetic fittings, scattered flaking of the paint on the Falange insignia and on the nickel-plated finish on the pommel, measuring 244 mm in length overall. Black painted steel scabbard, measuring 153 mm in length, with contact marks and surface wear overall. Brown leather strap wrapped around the body of the scabbard. Original black leather belt strap attached to the scabbard via two large rivets, reinforcing strap at the top with snap closure, strap leather remains relatively supple. Very fine.
