(Orden Humanitaria de la Santa Cruz y Víctimas del 2 de Mayo de 1808). Instituted 1867 by Queen Isabella II. Isabella’s reign issue. Type I. Of high quality manufacture, a very rare miniature of an unbodied silver medal, consisting of a central red enameled Latin Cross, surrounded by very detailed silver laurel and palm branches, with very well-done beneath crossed cannons and bullets, surmounted by a laurel wreath tied by a ribbon, with plain reverse, measuring 11.48 (w) x 19.27 mm (h), presenting minor silver oxidation, accompanied by original ladies bow, extremely good.

Footnote: The Humanitarian Order of the Holy Cross and Victims of May 2, 1808 was instituted on May 13, 1867, and it was united to the Spanish Red Cross in 1869. It was founded as a commemoration of the victims of May 2, 1808 in Madrid, who suffered a cruel represion from Napoleonic troops. It was awarded to reward the merits and services rendered to the Order.
