Multi-piece construction, insignia in bronze gilt with red, white and blue enamels, backed by a silver gilt wreath with icons on the arms of the cross and swords in the four corners, mounted to an eight-pointed silver star base, each star point with five dual-faceted rays, with a single dual-faceted ray between each star point, measuring 61.8 mm (w) x 59.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, contact marks and spotting evident on the reverse, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Spanish War Cross was instituted on January 26, 1937 and amended in 1942. It was a direct descendant of the Military Order of Mary Christine (María Cristina) created for the Queen Regent in 1890, intended to reward military bravery.
