(Campana de Cuba). Instituted 27 June 1873. 1873 Issue. Type I. A diamond medal in silver surrounded by laurels and ribbon, the obverse centre bears a left-facing sitting crowned woman with a shield superimposed before her, her right arm is extended holding a wreath, behind her is a body of water with a boat, a lion and two columns with a banner wrapped around them, below bears the inscription “CAMPANA DE CUBA” (CUBA CAMPAIGN), the reverse centre bears the inscription “ESPAÑA AL VALIENTE EJÉRCITO PELEA EN DEFENSA DE LA PATRIA 1873” (SPAIN TO THE BRAVE EXERCISER WHO FIGHTS IN DEFENSE OF SPAIN 1873), with mural crown suspension, measuring 36.52 m m (w) x 54.58 mm (h) (including crown), on incorrect replacement ribbon, very fine.
