(Cruz Roja Española). Instituted 1876. Alfonso XIII (1902-1926). In silver gilt, obverse featuring white and red enamel symbol of the Red Cross, surrounded by green laurels and an enameled black Malta’s shield both in silver gilt, obverse surrounded by Latin inscription IN HOC SIGNO SALUS (In this Sign, Health) also in silver gilt, surmounted by typical of time period Royal crown also in silver gilt, plain reverse, marked suspension by maker’s mark of GODET, measuring 32.50 mm (w) x 50.90 mm (h- inclusive of crown suspension and integral ring), accompanied by original ribbon, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Spanish Order of the Red Cross was instituted by Isabel II on July 6, 1864. It has been awarded to members of the Spanish Red Cross in recognition of meritorious service within the realm of public health care and service.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
