Spain, Spanish State. An M43 Garrison Cap
A very well-preserved Spanish Army M43 garrison cap, constructed of coarse olive-drab wool. It features fold-down side panels emanating from the rim of the sides and back, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. The sides bear chin straps which secure together with two wooden buttons on the right flap meeting an analogous reinforced buttonhole on the left flap. When not in use, the straps secured together across the top of the crown. It is also flanked on each side by a machine-embroidered red soutache. Completing the exterior features is a multi-piece red threaded tassel which descends from the peak and sits slightly beneath the rim. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece olive-drab cotton liner, stamped on the right with a partially-legible inscription of “ISABELINO” and a number “11”. It measures approximately 280 mm (l) x 145 mm (h) when folded flat. Presenting free of evident damage or wear, it is in an overall extremely fine condition.
