A Swedish Order of Vasa in Gold; Grand Cross - In Gold and enamels, measuring 55 mm x 82 mm, inclusive of the crown suspension, this order is of fine quality manufacture, featuring crisp ornate detail and high relief. It is attached with a clip to the full length of fine quality sash, which displays a flared bow and overall beautiful moire. The tip on the lower arm on the obverse has slight enamel loss, with cracking and scratching evident on the arms on both sides. In extremely fine condition. Footnote: The order was created by King Gustav on May 26, 1772, as an awrad for exceptional achievement in the field of farming, trade, mining, manufacturing, publishing and artistry. It could also be awarded to foreigners and came in three classes but has not been presented since 1974.
