(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted on 26 May 1772 by King Gustav III. Type VI. (Issued 1951 - 1975). Sash badge in silver gilt, consisting of a white enameled Maltese cross with ball finials, with Royal crowns in each quadrant, obverse centre featuring a Vasa sheaf with red enamel surround featuring “GUSTAF DEN III INST. MDCCLXXII” (“INSTITUTED BY GUSTAV III MDCCLXXII”), with mirrored reverse, hallmarked on elongated suspension loop and ornate integral suspension with Dutch import/duty mark "vreemd" for used imported objects between 1906 and 1953, measuring 54 mm (w) x 83 mm (h - inclusive of crown adorned by cross), with light enamel wear, on period sash, very fine. Accompanied by the star of the order, a stamped silver Maltese cross with smooth arms and small silver ball finials, obverse centre featuring a separately applied, detailed Vasa sheaf in silver adorned by a royal crown, reverse with vertical pin, large hinge and clasp with dual stays, measures 88.5 mm (w) x 89.00 mm (h), light patina, remains extremely fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
