Instituted in 1961. In brass, measuring 32 mm in diameter, edge nicks, moderate surface wear, lightly soiled original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback, very fine.
Footnote: The Medal for the Defence of Kiev was established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on June 21, 1961. It was awarded in conjunction with the twentieth anniversary of the German invasion. It was the only campaign medal to be established after 1945.
