(Медаль за храбрость). Instituted in 1938. In silver with red enamels, number impressed "2630868" on the reverse, measuring 37.5 mm in diameter, traces of the red enamels remains, soiled original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback, very fine.
Footnote: The Medal for Bravery was instituted on October 17, 1938 and awarded for personal bravery in a theater of operations; in defense of USSR borders; for performance of a soldier's duty in life-risking situations; and for activities against spies and subversive elements. The Medal for Combat Service was instituted on October 17, 1938 and awarded for "combat action resulting in a military success", "courageous defence of the state borders", or "successful military and political training and preparation". It was also awarded for ten years' service prior to the creation of the long service awards.
