(Орден Отечественной войны). Instituted in 1942. In silvered and gilt bronze with red and white enamels, Monetny Dvor mint marked and number engraved "1742048" on the reverse, measuring 44 mm (w) x 45.8 mm (h), intact enamels, screwback, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Patriotic War is a Soviet military decoration that was established on May 20, 1942, awarded to all soldiers in the Soviet armed forces, security troops, and to partisans for heroic deeds during the German-Soviet War, known since the mid-1960s in the former Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War. It was awarded in two classes. This 1985 issued Type III, II Class version is an anniversary award and not a combat award.
