An early Pius XI Bene Merenti Cross, in silver gilt with red enamels, the obverse presents a cross with a red enamelled border, and an inscription between the arms reading AN JUB HUB RED, suspended by crossed keys and a surmounting crown, the reverse mirrors the reverse with the central silver gilt section of the cross with the inscription PIVS XI. P.M. AXIII BENE MERENTI, measuring 30.6 mm (w) x 66.9 mm (h - inclusive of its crown and crossed keys suspension), worn on a black and red silk ribbon attached to the reverse of the crown suspension by a square shaped bar, gilt wear on obverse and on suspension piece, red enamels intact, very fine condition.
Contained in a hardshell case of issue composed of a red leatherette exterior with a Papal Coat of Arms of Pius XI, with a rich purple velvet medal bed and interior white silk lid, measures 64.15mm (w) X 123.75mm (h) x 21.75mm (d), hinge and clasp functional, sticker denoting 433 on obverse, overall very fine condition.
