(Ordine di San Gregorio Magno). Instituted in 1831. In 18K Gold, a red enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, the obverse features a bust of St. Gregory, surrounded by a ring inscribed S. GREGORIVS MAGNVS, reverse arms are not enamelled but show detailed cross hatching in Gold, the medallion features the inscription PRODEO ET PRINCIPE surrounded by a ring inscribed GREGORIUS XVI.P.M.ANNOI. suspended from a hollow trophy suspension, measures 32.8mm (w) x 61.3mm (h – inclusive of trophy suspension), weighs 10.0 grams (including ribbon), marked on the ring with a French owl denoting a Paris Assay Office examination, crossed keys with crown mark on ring and integral suspension below trophy and integral ring, obverse medallion has been re-lacquered, remains in very fine condition.
