(Orden narodnog heroja). Instituted in 1943. In bronze gilt, unmarked but of typical IKOM Zagreb manufacture, measuring 43.5 mm (w) x 59.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, very light contact, on its original full-length neck ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the People's Hero (AKA Order of the National Hero) was instituted on August 15, 1943 and awarded to individuals, military units and other organizations for extraordinary heroism, bravery and military leadership in the field, in one class. Overall, it was awarded to 45 military units and organizations, 1,324 Yugoslav citizens and 22 non-Yugoslavs. This was the highest military decoration of the Yugoslav Federal Republic, initially produced in gold in the USSR, then eventually made by the IKOM factory in Zagreb. In the period 1970-1980, a small quantity of the orders were produced in bronze gilt as replacement pieces, or for museum display.
