Constructed of bronze with gilt and enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with black enameled arms and crossed swords through the centrepiece, overlaid by a gilt applique consisting of a Finnish national lion wielding a sword, within an oak leaf wreath, the reverse with three rivets securing the obverse applique in place, with a screw and backplate, maker marked “VELJEKSET SUNDQVIST” on both the reverse of the cross and the backplate for the Helsinki-based medal firm, measuring 36.24 mm (w) x 36.42 mm (h), weighing 19.2 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
