Germany. A Colonial Merit Award, First Class, Modified for Wear on a Ribbon
(Kolonialauszeichnung). A star constructed of silvered bronze; the obverse depicting a lion infront of a palm, circumscribed “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DIE KOLONIEN” (German - For merit for the colonies) - the lion gripping a hat that is superimposed on a set of crossed swords; the reverse inscribed “In memoriam”, marked “Ges. Gesch.” as well as numbered “Nr. 34162”; the vertical pinback professionally removed, with two loops for suspension added; measuring 47.36 mm (w) x 45.72 mm (h); in overall very fine condition.
