Germany. A Gold Grade Wound Badge by The Official Vienna State Mint
A well preserved example of an early-mid war period Gold Grade Wound Badge “Verwundetenabzeichen”; oval shaped gilt tombac; the obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre featuring a large mobile swastika on its side superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom; the reverse plain with a flat vertical pinback, barrel hinge, and slightly rounded catch; maker marked “30” for “Hauptmünzamt, Wien” on the reverse; measuring 36.12 mm (w) x 43.92 mm (h); weighing 35.0 grams. Accompanied by its case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid, functional spring catch with stud release, with its interior fabric hinge, and with a functional exterior metal hinge; the bottom of the case marked “Hauptmünzamt, Wien III”; measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (h); in near mint condition.
