(Medaillen und Papiere). An extensive collection of awards and documents from the estates of (later) Hauptmann der Reserve Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus, including:

1. A Baden Order of the Zähringer Lion, II Class Knight’s Cross, constructed of gilded silver, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Cross Patée, the obverse featuring translucent green enameled arms, with an enameled centrepiece bearing a hand-painted depiction of the Stammschloss Zähringen, set within a ribbed gilt ring, with gilt swords piercing the centrepiece and with the quadrants of the arms joined by silvered arabesques, unmarked, measuring 39.74 mm (w) x 42.44 mm (h), with minor oxidation evident to the silvered features, in near extremely fine condition.

2. A Bavarian Royal Order of Merit of St. Michael, Merit Cross, constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central raised and finely-detailed depiction of St. Michael trampling the devil, clutching a sword and shield bearing an enameled inscription of “QUIS UT DEUS” (“WHO IS LIKE GOD”), the reverse bearing a central circular medallion overlaid by a blue inscription of “VIRTUTI” (“VIRTUE”), unmarked, measuring 36.58 mm (w) x 41.43 mm (h), weighing 17.2 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.

3. A Bavarian Luitpold Cross for 40 Years in State Service, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing a raised and leftward-facing profile of Prince Regent Luitpold, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central inscription of “FÜR EHRENVOLLE VIERZIG DIENSTES-JAHRE” (“FOR HONOURABLE FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE”), the arms bearing a date of “12. MÄRZ 1911” with a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 36.62 mm (w) x 40.97 mm (h), weighing 19.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.

5. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W’, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, the suspension loop maker marked “S-W” for Sy & Wagner, Berlin, measuring 42.55 mm (w) x 46.22 mm (h), weighing 18.2 grams, in extremely fine condition.

6. A pair of Stahlhelm badges, including a 1930 membership badges, constructed of silvered bronze with black enamel, the obverse consisting of a black disc overlaid by a raised and silvered Stahlhelm, above a silvered date of “1930”, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, marked “V. WM. 2260 1930” and maker marked with the logo of Der Stahlhof Magdeburg, measuring 31 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition, and; a general membership badge, constructed of silvered bronze, horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 30 mm (w) x 17 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.

7. A matching set of Heer Hauptmann shoulder boards, each constructed of white wool with cardboard cores and a magnetic metal wire reinforcement, topped by four bands of silver aluminum wire piping interspersed with black and white chevrons, and pinned with two gilded zink rank pips and numerals “55”, both unmarked and measuring 42 mm (w) x 115 mm (l), with age-appropriate material fatigue evident, in uniform-removed and very fine condition.

8. A pair of Imperial buttons, each constructed of bronze with magnetic metal cores, featuring one tunic button and one belt hook, both unmarked and demonstrating age-appropriate oxidation, in fair condition.

9. A pair Third Reich period award documents, including one named to Dr. (phil.) Arthur Lüttringhaus, nominating him the position of lecturer, issued in Berlin on 18 October 1939, measuring 255 mm (w) x 355 mm (h), with creasing and some discolouration evident, in very fine condition, and; one named to Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus, appointing him as an Associate Professor with the patronage of the Führer, issued at Führer Headquarters on 28 August 1941 and featuring a facsimile signature of the former alongside a handwritten signature of Generalfeldmarschall Hermann Göring, measuring 255 mm (w) x 355 mm (h), concealed within its period original card stock folio, each demonstrating minor and age-appropriate fatigue and discolouration, in overall very fine condition.

10. A pair of Third Reich period identity booklets, including an Arbeitsbuch, including a National Socialist People’s Welfare (NSV) membership booklet, constructed of a card stock binding with 32 paginated interior pages, named to Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus (born 6 January 1873), issued at Heidelberg on 3 May 1937 and featuring membership due stamps through the year 1938, with a black-and-white studio photo of Lüttringhaus, the book measuring 105 mm (w) x 148 mm (h) overall, in extremely fine condition, and; an Arbeitsbuch, constructed of a card stock binding with 32 paginated interior pages, named to Marianne Lüttinhaus (born either Gall or Ditt), issued on 6 October 1936, an employee of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Silikatforschung, measuring 105 mm (w) x 148 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

11. A mixed lot of 13 prewar and wartime Imperial documents, correspondence, and commemorative photos from Lüttringhaus’ estate, in overall very fine condition.

12. A mixed lot of four private photographs, including a group image affixed to a large cabinet card, depicting a group of Imperial Heer soldiers with a younger Lüttinghaus highlighted with an “X”, dated August 1900, the card measuring 240 mm (w) x 200 mm (h) overall, in near extremely fine condition; two wartime group photos depicting Lüttinghaus with a group of Heer soldiers at the Zähringer Hof, one photo with Lüttinghaus highlighted by a handwritten “X” and dated June 1915, both measuring 139 mm (w) x 88 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition, and; a large postwar group photos showing an assembly of German Red Cross (DRK) nurses and Reichswehr personnel assembled on a field, separated from its card stock backer which bears a handwritten inscription, measuring 274 mm (w) x 205 mm (h), in very fine condition.
