A fine early quality example of a cased Third Reich Period Second Class Order of the German Eagle with Swords “Orden vom Deutschen Adler Verdienstkreuz 2. Stufe mit Schwertern”; of multi-piece construction; a Maltesian cross in silver gilt and extremely well preserved enamels; slightly vaulted; with four national eagles “Hoheitszeichen” between the arms of the cross; vertical pinback with a functional hinge/catch assembly; the reverse maker marked “Silber” and “900” on the revese; unmarked, but displaying the typical manufacturing characteristics of Deschler & Sohn, measuring 48.58 mm x 48.95 mm; weighing 26.8 grams. Accompanied by its case of issue, constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a red faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid with a golden embossed national eagle; lined interior lid; recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; fully intact interior fabric hinge cover; dual exterior metal hinges; measuring 108 mm x 106 mm; the enamels of the breast star with minor contact marks, but with no chips or cracks of any kind; in overall extremely fine condition.
