Germany. A Second Pattern Luftwaffe Dagger by F. W. Holler of Solingen

Mid-War Production. An example of a third reich period German 2nd pattern Luftwaffe dagger, measuring 428 mm with its scabbard on, with a 255 mm nickel-plated magnetic steel blade, with dull edges and having a chipped tip. The blade’s reverse ricasso is marked with the maker mark of “F. W. Holler of Solingen”, depicting overall surface wear, as well as runner marks on the blade common to extraction and return to the scabbard. The black leather washer at the crossguard junction has been lost through time, The crossguard is constructed of cast aluminum, and is in the shape of an attacking eagle clutching a swastika in its talons., depicting light surface wear and contact marks. It features a pumpkin coloured celluloid grip with ten rows of twisted silvered wrap in the recessed of the ribbed grip without interruption, but with chipping in the celluloid at the bottom of the grip. The spacer ring between the crossguard and the celluloid grip shows oxidation. The pommel is also constructed of aluminum, exhibiting a swastika with an oak leaf design. The pommel itself is loose, allowing some movement of the grip and the spacer piece - if properly tightened, the pommel is 90 degrees rotated past its proper position. The scabbard is constructed of silvered metal (magnetic), with a traditional pebbled finish, ball final, and with the throat retained by a single mounted screw, and aluminum oak leaf bands with rings. In overall as-found condition. (C:205)
