Germany. An Iron Cross 1939 2nd Class in its Presentation Case of Issue by Ferdinand Wiedmann
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 2. Klasse). A cross pattee of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border; on loop for suspension from its mint period original ribbon; the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbering on the lower arm; measuring 44.97 mm (w) x 45.07 mm (h); weighing 20.2 grams. Accompanied by a LDO presentation case; constructed of cardstock, with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; stamped LDO on the interior of the lid, as well as “L/51” for “E.F. Wiedmann, Frankfurt am Main”, with a recessed medal bed and an intact exterior leatherette hinge; measuring 71 mm (w) x 80 mm (h); the cross with attractive old patina from age; in overall very fine condition.
