Germany, Heer. A Gebirgsjäger EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Gebirgsjäger M43 Feldmütze). An extremely well-preserved Heer Gebirgsjäger EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap features fold-down side panels offering ear and neck protection which, when not in use, are held together by a brown bakelite button on the right flap meeting a reinforced buttonhole on the left flap. Sewn into the left flap is a zink edelweiss with a gilded magnetic metal centerpiece, measuring 38 mm (w) x 58 mm (h). Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a BeVo-style Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika above a tri-colour cockade, set onto a T-shaped field-grey rayon backer. The insignia measures 58 mm (w) x 44 mm (h). The exterior features of the cap are completed by a cardboard-reinforced protruding visor securely set into the structure. The interior is fully lined with olive-green cotton, padded into a winter liner. It bears a size stamp of “57” and dual stamps reading “STATNI FILM”, indicating that the cap was later used as a prop by the Czechoslovakian state film industry. It is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 175 mm (w) x 248 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Minor soiling is evident and the visor cardboard has been cracked. It is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
