Germany, Heer. A Heer (Army) Gebirgsjäger M43 EM/NCO’s Field Cap
(Gebirgsjäger Einheitsfeldmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Heer (Army) Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troops) EM/NCO's M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool with a light brown cotton interior liner. The exterior is surrounded by fold-down flaps spanning the circumference of the cap, providing neck and ear protection when in use. The flaps are secured in place when not in use by a single brown bakelite button at the front of the left flap, which meets a reinforced buttonhole on its counterpart. The peak of the cap is adorned by a machine-embroidered, T-shaped insignia bearing a grey Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a tri-colour threaded cockade. The insignia measures 55 mm (w) x 44 mm (h). Stitched into the left side of the cap is a Gebirgsjäger insignia in the form of a silvered zink edelweiss with a yellow magnetic metal centerpiece, measuring 50 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). The cap features a visor, with a cardboard-reinforced core, extending 55 mm outwards. The interior of the cap features multiple rows of machine stitching in an oval formation, securely holding the liner in place. At the rear, a size stamp of “57” is clearly visible in black ink. The interior is also flanked by dual black ink stamps clearly reading “STATNI FILM”, indicating that the cap was used as a film prop by the eponymous state-owned Czechoslovak film company. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures 198 mm (w) x 256 mm (l) x 125 mm (h). While minor soiling of the interior liner is evident, the cap is otherwise intact and presents in an extremely fine condition.
