Germany, Heer. A Late-War Assault Gun Personnel Wrapper

(Heer feldgraue Sturmgeschützjacke). An extremely well-preserved, late-war Heer Sturmgeschütz (Assault Gun) Personnel wrapper, constructed of field-grey wool. It features a turned-down collar which transitions into double breast lapels. The collar is flanked by improvised tabs fashioned directly into the base wool, consisting of deep red piping stitched into a rectangular frame and surrounding central silvered Totenkopf cyphers, measuring 40 (w) x 65 mm (l). The shoulders retain loops and pebbled zink buttons for the accommodation of straps, which have been lost to time. Each sleeve has a vertical slit fastening closed with two black bakelite buttons for an adjustable fit. Stitched onto the upper right breast is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 105 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). It closes with nine black bakelite buttons of various sizes on the right flap meeting hidden, reinforced buttonholes set into the left flap. The interior is partially encompassed by a silver-grey rayon liner which extends across both breasts. A single pocket is set into the right side, while dual straps featuring an array of eyelets for the accommodation of a belt hanger also emanate from the liners. Stamped onto the upper left breast in black ink is a Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBNr.) of “9/0007/5507” for an unidentified manufacturer, a chart of size dimensions, and a manufacture date of “B44”. It measures approximately 47 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 50 cm, and an overall body length 56 cm. Demonstrating only minor signs of material fatigue, this super late-war example remains in an extremely fine condition.
