Germany, Heer. A Narvik Shield
(Heer Narvikschild). Constructed of cupal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, representing the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940” and topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” with a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a non-magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner indicating Heer (Gebirgsjäger) issue, the shield measuring 40.92 mm (w) x 90.96 mm (h), a scarce example in extremely fine condition.
