Germany, Heer. A Panzer Signals EM/NCO’s Overseas Cap
(Heer Panzer Schiffchen). This is an extremely well-preserved Heer Panzer Signals EM/NCO’s overseas field cap, constructed of black wool. The cap features fold-down panelling fully lining the circumference of the exterior, securely held in place by two pieces of stitching at the front of the cap. It is flanked on each side by a ventilation holes reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets. The peak of the cap bears an insignia in the form of a BeVo-style grey rayon Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, set on a black rayon background and measuring 70 mm (w) x 28 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a lemon-yellow soutch, surrounding a tri-colour cockade constructed of multi-coloured BeVo-style threading on a black rayon backer, measuring 36 mm (w) x 36 mm (h). The interior of the cap features a complete field-grey cotton liner. The crown is stamped in black ink with a size of “55”, a manufacturer’s label of “GEBR. ALN., BERLIN C2, 1940”, and a date of “II 1940”. The cap measures approximately 270 mm (l) x 95 mm (h). Minor material fatigue is apparent, and there is evidence that the eagle insignia has been replaced. The cap is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
