Germany, Heer. A Panzergrenadier Enlisted Ranks Field Tunic
(Heer Feldbluse für Panzergrenadier). A well-preserved Heer Panzergrenadier Enlisted ranks field tunic, constructed of a field-grey herringbone twill (HBT) drill cloth. The tunic features a turned down collar transitioning into double breast lapels. The collar is flanked by tabs constructed of a silver-grey rayon-blended base, topped by three dark grey tresses, each measuring 25 mm (w) x 60 mm (l). The shoulders are flanked by straps constructed of field-grey wool and trimmed with meadow-green piping. Each measuring 45 mm (w) x 110 mm (l), the straps are secured in place with an integral loop emanating from the tunic at the outer edge, and with pebbled zink buttons on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve has a slit closing with two pressed card stock buttons for an adjustable fit. The breast flaps have four non-pleated pockets all closing with horizontal flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled zink buttons. Stitched onto the upper right breast flap just above the corresponding pocket is an insignia consisting of a field-grey cotton/rayon-blended backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 100 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall. It closes with six pebbled zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The interior features grey cotton reinforcements along the armpits and seams, with a narrow pocket set into the lower right breast flap. Two straps with reinforced eyelets and magnetic metal hangers emanate from the waistband to meet reinforced eyelets set into the outer material for the accommodation of a belt. Unmarked, the tunic measures approximately 44 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 57 cm, and an overall body length of 72 cm when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor soiling and material fatigue consistent with wartime use, it remains in a near extremely fine condition.
