Germany, Heer. An Administration Officer’s Visor Cap, by Erel

(Schirmmütze für Offiziere der Heeresverwaltung). An extremely well-preserved Heer Administration Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey whipcord wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a smooth dark green wool cap band. Blue-green woven piping fully lines the circumference of the crown, with additional bands of identical piping trimming both the top and bottom of the cap band. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is an aluminum insignia in the form of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Measuring 65 mm (w) x 26 mm (h), the eagle is attached to the cap with all three original reverse attachment prongs. Pinned into the centre of the cap band underneath the eagle is a tri-colour magnetic metal cockade with a red wool centrepiece, set within an aluminum oak leaf wreath, measuring 65 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). It is flanked on each side by pebbled aluminum buttons securing in place a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire. Featuring two adjustable sliding knots, the chinstrap rests upon a vulcanfibre visor which presents with a glossed black finish on the obverse and with a matte black finish on the reverse. A brown leather sweatband fully surrounds the interior, secured in place by a row of machine stitching, while the former is also fully encompassed by a golden-yellow rayon-blended liner. Stitched onto the crown is a transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard, underneath which the remnant of an “EREL” mark is faintly visible. An additional stamped number “25” is also visible on the crown, but the cap is otherwise unmarked. It measures approximately 235 mm (w) x 240 mm (l) x 175 mm (h). With only minor signs of material fatigue evident, it is in an overall extremely fine condition.
