Germany, Heer. An Administrative Officer’s Visor Cap

(Heer Schmirmmütze). A Heer Administrative Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with dark green wool piping, while an additional band of identical piping trims the exterior edge of the crown. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a dark green wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 70 mm (w) x 35 mm (h). Underneath the eagle, the centre of the cap band features an additional insignia consisting of a padded dark green wool backer bearing a central non-ferrous metal tri-colour cockade within a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire oak leaf wreath. The former measures 70 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). A pebbled non-ferrous metal button flanks each side of the cap band, securing in place a decorative chinstrap, in turn adjusted with dual sliding knots of identical construction. The chinstrap wrests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a matte black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. Trimming the lower edge of the interior is a light brown leather sweatband, perforated with ventilation holes along the forehead. The interior is also fully encompassed by a slate-grey rayon liner. Stitched onto the crown of the liner is a partial transparent plastic moisture guard, bearing a partially-intact inscription of “DIE VORSCHRIFTSMÄßIGE MÜTZE”, indicating that some of the interior features have been harvested from a veteran’s association cap and replaced post-manufacture. The sweatband also bears an embossed “EREL” mark, and appears original to the cap. It measures approximately 235 mm (w) x 245 mm (l) x 170 mm (h). In addition to the replaced interior features, the cap demonstrates from material fatigue to the insignia, wool, and sweatband, with some distortion of the structure of the side walls. It is in an overall fair condition.
