Germany, Heer. An Army Forestry Service Officer’s Visor Cap
(Heeres Forst Dienst Schirmmütze). A well-preserved Army Forest Service officer’s visor cap constructed of field-grey wool twill with a forest-green cap band. The cap is fully surrounded by bands of green piping around the crown, as well as at the top and bottom of the cap band. Pinned into the centre of the cap band is an insignia in the form of an aluminum oak leaf wreath around a tri-coloured cockade, also constructed of aluminum with a red felt centrepiece. The insignia measures 115 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The cap is flanked on each side by pebbled magnetic metal buttons securing in place a decoration chinstrap, constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire. The exterior features are completed by a protruding vulcanfibre visor, presenting with a lacquered black finish on the exterior. A brown leather interior sweatband is held securely in place by a row of machine stitching, and measures 44 mm in width. The interior features a complete dark grey rayon-blended interior liner. A transparent moisture guard is stitched into the crown. The cap bears the illegible remnants of a maker’s stamp on the interior of the cap band, and measures approximately 244 mm (w) x 265 mm (l) x 170 mm (h). Some material degradation is evident to the exterior of the visor, and it is missing its peak insignia. It is in an overall very fine condition.
