Germany, Heer. An Army Panzer Officer’s Overseas Side Cap
(Feldmütze). A well-preserved example of an early Second War German Heer (Army) Panzer Officer’s M38 pattern overseas cap, constructed of high-quality field-gray wool, with fold-down scallops to the front and side, the crown, and the front edges of the scalloped side panels feature embroidered silver/aluminum piping, indicating the rank of Officer, the front of the cap features a machine embroidered Wehrmacht-style eagle, constructed of silver thread and dark green machine embroidery, that is hand-sewn to the cap, directly below is a pink embroidered soutache, indicating Panzers, sewn to the cap in a triangular fashion, with a bullion version of a national cockade, consisting of a black wool backer, and black and silver wires, with a red felt core, the cap is lined on the interior with a grey cotton lining, with a grey faux leather sweatband towards the front third of the cap, stamped with the size “55 ½,” measures 27.5 cm (w) x 10.5 cm (folded), without holes or tears of any kind, period repair present on interior lining, an extremely lightly worn example, and in overall better than extremely fine condition.
