Germany, Heer. An EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Heer Einheitsfeldmütze M43). A very well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front by two pebbled magnetic metal buttons emanating from the right flap and meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a one-piece field-grey trapezoid, bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn above a tri-colour cockade. The insignia measures 60 mm (W) x 45 mm (h). Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, fully lined in identical wool. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece cotton/rayon-blended grey liner. Stamped onto the crown is a Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBNr.) of “0/0678/5015” for an unconfirmed maker, a manufacture date of “9/43” and a size mark of “56”. It measures approximately 200 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 140 mm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include minor exterior soiling, a crack to the centre of the visor core, and minor interior soiling. It is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
