Germany, Heer. An Officer’s Dress Dagger, Infanterie-Regiment 47 with Hanger, by Alcoso

(Heer Offiziersdolch mit Anhänger). An extremely well-preserved Heer Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 395 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 260 mm-long polished magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. Acid-etched onto the obverse of the blade is an inscription of “DAS UFFZ. KORPS. D. 7/J.R. 47” (“THE NCO CORPS OF THE 7. KOMPANIE, INFANTERIE-REGIMENT 47”), while the reverse bears an inscription of “HAMBG. D. 26. 10. 1935”. The reverse ricasso bears a maker’s mark of “ALCOSO, SOLINGEN” for the former firm of Alexander Coppel, Solingen, circumscribing the company’s scale logo. It sits securely within a silvered alloy upper crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with the seam covered by an intact brown leather buffer pad. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of ribbed brown celluloid, while the dagger completes with a flattened pommel nut, decorated along the outer circumference with raised oak leaves, which screws in to securely maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled magnetic metal shaft. The upper third of the shaft features two integral oak leaf bands, each securing in place a suspension ring for the accommodation of a hanger. The throat retains a functional spring catch, firmly holding the dagger in place during storage. It is accompanied by a matching hanger secured to the aforementioned loops, consisting of two field-grey doeskin wool straps, each topped by silver aluminum wire tresses, descending from a gilded aluminum loop. Each strap is adjusted with a silvered zink buckle, presenting in the form of an oval oak leaf wreath, and retains functional spring clips locking onto the scabbard’s loops. The hanger measures 260 mm in total length as presented. The set demonstrates slight signs of age-appropriate wear, including some running marks to the blade and loss of finish to the silvered features. It is in an overall extremely fine condition.
