Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, with Award Document, to Unteroffizier Heinrich Gantert
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse mit Verleihungsurkunde). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, the loop maker marked “KO” for an unconfirmed manufacturer, measuring 43.24 mm (w) x 48.10 mm (h), weighing 17.3 grams, with minor oxidation visible to the core, in near extremely fine condition, accompanied by its award document, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to “UNTEROFFIZIER HEINRICH GANTERT” of 6. Kompanie, Infanterie-Regiment 470, issued on 31 October 1917 and featuring the handwritten signature of then-Generalmajor Karl Friedrich Gottfried Müller, issued for service on the Western Front and measuring 222 mm (w) x 185 mm (h), with folding creases visible, in very fine condition.
