Constructed of silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, marked “M.H.F.” (unknown maker) on suspension loop, with black and white ribbon, measuring 42.90 mm (w) x 47.66 mm (h), weighing 16.5 grams, very fine.
A 1914 Iron Cross II Class Award Document to Vice Sergeant Erich Martin of the 59th Artillery Rangefinder Unit, on cream-coloured cardstock. Awarded in Schless-Hamburg in April 1916, stamped and signed. The award has an image of a 1914 Iron Cross at the top and has an ornately detailed border. Presenting one folding crease and minimal scuffing. Measuring 217 mm (w) x 152 mm (h), very fine.
