Germany, Imperial. A China Commemorative Medal for Non-Combatants
(China Denkmünze für Nichtkämpfer). Instituted 12 July 1901 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1901 issue). Constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a German national eagle grappling with a dragon, the reverse bearing a central monogram of Kaiser Wilhelm II, circumscribed by an inscription of “VERDIENST UM DIE EXPEDITION NACH CHINA” (“SERVICE TO THE THE EXPEDITION TO CHINA”), measuring 32.64 mm (w) x 35.45 mm (h), weighing 15.1 grams, with some oxidation evident, in very fine condition.
