Germany, Imperial. A First World War Infantry Assault Stein
(Infanterie im Angriff Bierkrug). A well-preserved First World War commemorative stein, constructed of glazed off-white earthenware, the exterior bearing a finely-detailed and hand-painted scene of a group of Pickelhaube-clad German soldiers overrunning a pair of entrenched French soldiers, waved on by an Officer wielding a sword, within an oak leaf wreath wrapped in a ribbon presenting in a classic black, white, and red Imperial tricolour, above a banner bearing an inscription of “STURMANGRIFF” (“CHARGE”), the side featuring a curved protruding handle, flanked by an etched measurement of “½ L.” otherwise unmarked, measuring 94 mm (w) (exclusive of handle) x 120 mm (h), missing its hinge and lid but demonstrating no chips or cracks, in overall near extremely fine condition.
