Germany, Imperial. A Presentation Watch for Years of Faithful Service in the Royal Fire Defence of Spandau, c.1910
A beautiful and finely manuactured pocket watch for years of faithful service in the Royal Feuerwehr (Fire Defence) of Spandau by Gustav Hinrichs, constructed of silver, exterior obverse bears a white watch face with black Arabic numbers (1-12) and stick bar markers with ornate centered minute hands, a smaller watch face at the bottom with black stick bar markers and numbered for seconds (10-60) with a simple second hand, bearing the maker name “Gust. Hinrichs FRANKFURT A/M” (Gustav Hinrichs FRANKFURT A/M), covered by a clear crystal, 14k gold plated silver bezel, the exterior reverse cover bears a crowned cipher “W” for Wilhelm, encompassed by a diamond-shaped engraved border, 14k gold plated bezel, with a 14k gold plated crown and silver bow, the interior of the cover is inscribed with “0.800 Oskar Gröning 1540478 B” and smaller engravings around the edge “K 5/46”, “769He”, “Mrs1394”, “W16334”, the cover of the movement bears a central right facing crowned portrait encompassed by an oak leaf wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom, circumscribed by “FÜR JÄHRIGE TREUE DIENSTE KGL. FEUERW. LABORAT. SPANDAU. 1910” (FOR YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICES ROYAL FIRE DEFENCE SERVICES SPANDAU. 1910), opening on a hinge to reveal the COLUMBUS movement, 52.94 mm (w) x 67.31 mm (h), in working condition, with an unstructured brown leather watch pouch, rare and very fine.
