Germany, Imperial. An 1888-1889 German East Africa Medal for Bravery and Loyalty by Ferdinand Weigand
(Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Gesellschaft Tapferkeitsmedaille). Constructed of coppered bronze, the obverse with a central German East Africa Company coat of arms, topped by dates “1888-1889”, circumscribed by an inscription of “DEUTSCHE-OSTAFRIKANISCHE GESELLSCHAFT” (“GERMAN EAST AFRICA COMPANY”), the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR PFLICHTTREUE UND TAPFERKEIT” (“FOR LOYALTY AND BRAVERY”), the reverse maker marked “WEIGAND”, measuring 50 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition.
