Germany, Imperial. An 1898 Marksmanship Competition Trophy in Bronze
(Preißschiessen Trophäe). A unique marksmanship competition trophy, consisting of a finely-detailed coppered bronze Prussian Jäger in full uniform, wearing a shako adorned with a Prussian imperial eagle and clutching a Mauser-style rifle, with a bayonet suspended from his side, standing on rocky ground, in turn affixed to a rounded black lacquered multi-level wooden base, bearing a frontal bronze plaque with an engraved inscription of “OBERJÄGER PREIßSCHIEßEN am 19. 8. 98 DEN BESTEN SCHÜTZEN ORTH GESTIFTET V. SECUNDE LIEUT. FREUDE”, the base retaining a magnetic metal nut securely maintaining the structure of the trophy, measuring 325 mm in height, with moderate loss of copper finish to the figure and minor wear of the wooden base evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
