What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Germany, Imperial. An Ersatz Combat Bayonet, c.1918

(Bajonett). A well-preserved ersatz (substitute) combat bayonet, measuring 46 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 31.5 cm-long polished magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. The blade sits securely within a one-piece magnetic metal hilt with an open-top muzzle guide and hollow insertion slot with a functional push-button spring release. The reverse of the muzzle guide bears a stamped letter “W” topped by a crown, while the obverse bears a stamped serial number of “6316”. It is accompanied by its matching scabbard, constructed of a blackened magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft for the accommodation of a frog. The latter is included and is constructed of field-grey canvas, securely stitched into a loop for belt suspension. A frontal slit has been enlarged in the field to meet the hook, while the scabbard’s throat also retains a functional catch, gently holding the bayonet in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include minor oxidation of the metal elements, with additional running marks to the blade, and some material fatigue of the frog. The bayonet is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
