Germany, Imperial. An Honour Badge of the Hanseatic Red Cross, II Class with Case, by Gebrüder Godet
(Ehrenkreuz II. Klasse Hanseatische Vereine vom Roten Kreuz mit Etui). Instituted November 1924 by the Red Cross Associations of Bremen, Hamburg, and Lübeck. (1924-1933 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a vaulted Maltese Cross, the obverse with red enameled arms, bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a red enameled Geneva Cross, surrounded by black enameled ring bearing a silvered inscription of “HANSEATISCHE VEREINE VOM ROTEN KREUZ” (“HANSEATIC ASSOCIATION OF THE RED CROSS”), the reverse with a block hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “GEBR. GODET U. CO.”, measuring 45.78 mm (w) x 45.96 mm (h), weighing 17.2 grams, accompanied by a period presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux white leather exterior liner, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner and white velvet medal bed, the former bearing an illegible maker’s mark, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 85 mm (w) x 76 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), minor flecking and loss of finish is visible to the enamels and base metal of the badge, respectively, while the case demonstrates moderate fatigue throughout, in overall very fine condition.
