A 1914 Iron Cross presentation set, consisting of a II Class Cross, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 42.50 mm (w) x 46.44 mm (h), weighing 15.0 grams, demonstrating minor oxidation of the core, in very fine condition, and; a private purchase I Class Cross, constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a vaulted Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, bearing an engraved inscription of “VFW. SCHULTE” and date of “29. 6. 1916”, otherwise unmarked, measuring 42.63 mm (w) x 42.75 mm (h), weighing 14.5 grams, demonstrating tarnishing of the frame, in better than very fine condition; both concealed within a postwar storage case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux brown leather exterior liner, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner bearing an inscription of “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DEUTSCHLANDS GROßE ZEIT” (“IN MEMORY OF GERMANY’S GREAT PERIOD”), with a dark green velvet medal bed featuring custom depressions for both crosses, in addition to a hollow void to accommodate the II Class ribbon, unmarked, measuring 12 cm (w) x 10 cm (l) x 2.5 cm (h), demonstrating material fatigue throughout, in very fine condition. 2. A Pilot’s Badge, constructed of silvered brass, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a German State Crown, around a central depiction of a monoplane flying over a rural landscape, the reverse with a wide barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 45.53 mm (w) x 71.72 mm (h), weighing 26.1 grams, in extremely fine condition 3. A pair of award notices, including one for the Pilot’s Badge, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, dated 29 September 1916 (it is unknown why this date is instead engraved on the accompanying 1914 Iron Cross I Class), certified by the handwritten signature of a Hauptmann Thomsen, measuring 21 cm (w) x 16.5 cm (h), demonstrating creases consistent with folding into quadrants, in better than very fine condition, and; an award notice for the 1914 Iron Cross I Class, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to Schultz as a Vizefeldwebel of Fliegerabteilung Nr. 4,, certified by the handwritten signature of an unidentified Oberstleutnant, measuring 22.5 cm (w) x 18 cm (h), demonstrating creases consistent with folding into quadrants, in better than very fine condition. 4. A small photo showing what is presumed to be Schultz in the seat of a two-seater aircraft, unmarked, measuring 9 cm (w) x 6 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
