Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Fregattenkapitän’s White Service Uniform

(Kriegsmarine weisse Uniform für Fregattenkapitän). A well-preserved, two-piece Kriegsmarine Fregattenkapitän’s white uniform, consisting of:

1. A tunic constructed of white cotton/rayon-blended material. It features a low-set collar reinforced with three rows of machine stitching. Each shoulder is adorned with a board constructed of white wool with a cardboard core, topped by four bands of interwoven silver aluminum wire piping, and pinned with a single gilded rank pip. Each measuring 35 mm (w) x 115 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with integral bars fitted through a loop in the tunic at the outer edge and with gilded magnetic metal buttons on the inner edge. Two pleated pockets are set into each breast flap, all opening with scalloped flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting gilded magnetic metal buttons. Four sets of threaded loops are distributed over and around the upper left pocket for the accommodation of awards, while three additional loops set above the upper right pocket retain a period original insignia. The former consists of a gilded aluminum Kriegsmarine-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Measuring 96 mm (w) x 36 mm (h), the eagle is unmarked and features a reverse barrel hinge, horizontal pinback, round wire catch, and central stabilizer neatly fastened to the tunic. It closes with six gilded magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The interior is plain with the exception of a suspension loop set into the collar, as well as a black ink mark of “2. 93075” on the lower right flap. It measures approximately . With only minor material wear evident, it is in an extremely fine condition.

2. A set of trousers, constructed of an identical white cotton/rayon-blended material. The exterior features three belt loops and two side pockets, with an additional back pocket. The trousers close with a French fly featuring five hidden bakelite buttons meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes. Four additional bakelite buttons are distributed around the interior of the waistband, which is also stamped with a black Kriegsmarine distribution mark and code “6830-255-2420”. Measuring approximately 340 mm across the waist, with an inseam of 320 mm, and an overall length of 980 mm, the trousers demonstrate minor exterior soiling and material fatigue, and are in an overall near extremely fine condition.
