Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, by C.E. Juncker
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded and silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of the Northern Hemisphere topped by a Viking longship cutting through waves, the reverse with a single visible rivet securing the obverse globe in place, with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, bearing a hand-etched and partially legible owner’s name and possible unit attribution, otherwise unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by C.E. Juncker, Berlin, measuring 43.96 mm (w) x 56.78 mm (h), weighing 33.6 grams, in extremely fine condition.
