Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, Late-War Issue, by Schwerin
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of a Viking longship sailing over the Northern Hemisphere, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 43.84 mm (w) x 56.01 mm (h), weighing 26.4 grams, demonstrating total loss of finish and minor oxidation throughout, a late-war example in fair condition.
