Germany, Kriegsmarine. Two Period Studio Portraits Of A Sailor (Minesweeper)

In the first picture, the sailor wears the cap tally of “Versuchsboot Nautilus”, a minesweeper that was used as a testing ship by the Sperrversuchskommando (Mine Testing Command) in the development of mines, and detonation and sweeping devices. The reverse shows a dedication in black ink: “in memory of your friend Heinz”. It is dated to November 8, 1938.

The second picture is tinted. It shows the same sailor wearing a Minesweeper Badge. A stamp on the reverse states that the picture was taken in Kiel. Measuring 82x133mm and 87x134mm, better than very fine condition with light scuffing and light soiling/scratching of the surface.
