Germany, Luftwaffe. A First Pattern Dagger, by Overhoff & Cie, Lüdenscheid

(Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch). This is a very well-preserved Luftwaffe dagger, first pattern, measuring 487 mm in total length. The dagger features a blade constructed of nickel-plated magnetic steel, with semi-sharpened edges and a sharpened tip, measuring 310 mm in length. The blade sits securely in the upper crossguard, with a thin black leather washer covering the seam. The crossguard itself is constructed of nickel silver and consists of three ribbed layers with a central sunwheel-style mobile swastika on both the obverse and reverse. Wrapped around the upper crossguard is a portepee, constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire, completing in a stylized acorn. The handle is constructed of black leather with multiple bands of gold bullion wire wrapped tightly around. The dagger complete in a pommel in the form of a nickel-silver sunwheel-style mobile swastika. It includes its period original scabbard, constructed of magnetic metal with a faux black leather exterior. The throat of the scabbard retains a functional spring catch to securely hold the dagger in place during storage. Two silvered magnetic metal bands set around the scabbard accommodate dual loops with a suspension chain and functional magnetic metal spring clip, marked with the logo of maker Overhoff & Cie, Lüdenscheid, in turn connection to a brown leather suspension loop. The dagger is otherwise unmarked. Minor tarnishing is evident to the metallic features, with slight running marks present on the blade and material fatigue to the portepee and scabbard liner, with additinal loosening of the handle, but the dagger is in an otherwise better than very fine condition.
