(Luftwaffe Erdkampfabzeichen). Instituted on 31.3.1942 by Generalfeldmarschall Hermann Göring. (Issued 1942-1945). Constructed of silvered and patinated zink, the obverse with an oval oak leaf wreath with a ribbon on the bottom and a Luftwaffe eagle with outspread wings on the top, with a cloud towards the top and a lightning bolt striking the ground, the reverse plain, with a vertical banjo style pinback, with a crimped sheet metal hinge and a crimped flat catch, marked “R.K.” for “Rudolf Karneth” on the reverse, measuring 43.39 mm (w) x 56.36 mm (h), weighing 26.6 grams, in good condition.
