Germany, Luftwaffe. A Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge, by Wilhelm Deumer
(Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordschützen und Bordmechaniker). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a mobile swastika, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a pair of lightning bolts, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “W. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 43.44 mm (w) x 55.48 mm (h), weighing 26.2 grams, with most of the silver finish lost, in very fine condition.
